Description
Captured back on 12/11/11, at the beautiful Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden, located on the north campus of beautiful California State University Long Beach, in Long Beach, California.
MrsRatbag's current series on her Seattle Japanese Garden reminded me that I had some of my own mostly forgotten snaps of similar subject matter vegetating in my files.
The Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is also noted for its koi.
Shalom.

A lovely capture of this garden, Harry; I love those three big rocks in the water foreground, they have a very commanding presence. The garden looks like it's likely bigger than the one I was at. I'd love to see it in person!

I'm glad to see that you got nearly as many full views as comments: This series demands full view to see the balance of elements, textures, light, etc. In a later upload, you said that you had to darken these to tone down the heavy S.Cal sun. A tough task. But you've created, as a result, a kind of textile art-piece, almost fairy tale-ish in its plush and vivid feel, with scenes one would expect to see on a wall hanging in a "great room" (of a mansion). These are beautiful. You've got a left side pouring into the water (so to speak), and opening up into a right side with its reflections and people near the tree. A sweet composition. And because of the hues and light, the bushes/grasses behind the 3 big rocks look like blankets of moss. (Maybe they are, but they look like big blankets here.) The 3 rocks make a fine "statement" (visually) in this lush profusion of a scene. You've done a fine job of transforming the high light you started out with: These are all enchanted plush shots, right out of a storybook.

Amazingly lovely place and indeed shot Harry mate! But, just a small point, as anahata.c mentions, tone the light down a bit darker and bring the colours in... It will work.. Nice one. Rob
