Description

The knave and myself came to blows, so I smote him, forthwith, verily. (Now if I only knew Shakespearean English.) Captured 4/27/14, at the beautiful Renaissance Faire, held at the beautiful Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area, in semi beautiful Irwindale, California. A couple of more handsome chaps, having a genial chat dressed in their impeccable red jerkins best, and enjoying their mead. Incidentally, on further research, I found that the reason there were so many disparate costumes worn on the particular day I visited the Faire, is because it had been designated part of Time Travelers' Weekend, which meant that it was permissible to wear anything you wanted, from whichever century you had been transported from via time machine. Ergo, I arrived in my finest 21st century blue jeans, sports shirt, Adidas baseball cap and photo tummy pack. Ciao.

I wonder if they were drinking ale or just water? Must be warm in those getups, I would imagine...Porthos and Aramis talking weapons or wenches in the tavern, a wonderful scene and fantastic capture, Harry!

As comfortable as those two chaps seem, I detect another anachronism: Air conditioning!!

The only air conditioning there was natural, provided by the wind from outdoors, barely blowing through this wide open structure.

Some great comments. I love Rob's merry olde england reply. (And it probably IS Bud, lol, a real staple in Shakespeare's time.) Yeah these costumes kind of cover a few periods---I don't know if those feathers are strictly Renaissance England, though I could be wrong. (We get the word "panache" from those things---'pan' being related to 'pen', as feather quills were the first pens. So "panache" meant, literally, in the manner of pens/quills.) But it's another fine portrait from this series, with the two men so frontal but clearly involved in each other's company (side to side), and small touches like one guy with his legs boisterously open, while the other's is more closed. And the guy on the left is conversing with his arm up. Nice motion between them, and wonderful specifics. (The one on the right has flowers, and the other guy has a wooden mug.) You got one against a green door---red against green, complementary colors/strong contrast, setting each off. And it must've been hard to be there a long time, if there was little breeze and that SW sunshine. Those guys had to be a wee bit warm in those outfits...Joyous portrait.
