Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

What a ridiculous thing superstition is, when I was a fisherman, I'd have bunches of these for making waggler floats. Everytime I fould a place that sold them, I'd selfishly buy all they had. Never bothered me. Great shot Andrea!

a superb capture

Such primitive superstition in a highly cultured country? Fie on them. Of course, you could have countered that by wearing a rabbit's foot on the other ear. In any case, lovely colors, patterns and striations in this magnificent macro.

I've never heard of such a thing! A fascinating bit of lore, and a beautiful photograph.

Peacock's are beautiful regal birds and their feathers undoubtedly beautiful, it's difficult to pin a specific reason why so many people (including my late mother) considered them very unlucky... it's most likely steeped in historical myths of various events of those who possessed the feathers and went on to experience a succession of bad luck and tragic events. Of course those events may have happened regardless of the feathers being present. It's rather like the Crying boy paintings and the curse surrounding them.... a number of houses with them on the wall burned down with the painting remaining unharmed. Great detail in the feather, captured so well. Was it Argus and the evil eye?.

Future Shock was a book written by the futurist Alvin Toffler in 1970. One of his singular claims was that even thought people are physically living in the present century their psychological state was stuck in the twelfth century. Your story is more proof. A spectacular capture. The colors are gorgeous.

I've never heard of such an idea about those beautiful feathers, Andrea. The photo is so lovely and clear. A very clever made macro-shot, my friend.

Very nice! I have also photographed them very close. Never heard of such superstitions...weird!

I also have never heard that superstition; I wonder in which country it originates? Seems like it would only be unlucky for the bird that lost them. What a beautiful capture!

First of all, I just love Peacock feathers !!! - and what a stupid superstition - I have also heard of that one before, but never taken any notice of it ... I was always a true rebel and still am, methinks ... ;P BTW - my son had been given a Peacock feather earring from a top model one fine day [mind you, many years ago] in return for a cigarette ! he thought that was the best exchange he ever did and wore it proudly for a long time, especially on stage, when he played rhythm and lead guitar in a band ... ;)) fine macro, Andrea BB
