Description

Captured 5/5/14, early AM, somewhere around the industrialized section of the city. Not only do gardeners and maintenance people complain about the detritus, including the fibrous spines of the trunks left by palm trees as they shed, but also about this stringy stuff, which fouls up their wood chippers and shredders. Although interesting, I see more than enough of this around, and it ain't attractive. The leaves on this particular tree are of the palmate compound variety. A ZOOM will really give you a good look at this stringy stuff.

I know this stuff. I have cut myself nearly to the bone trying to peel this stringy mess away only to find it's well and tightly attached. It looks like that palm tree is in bad need of a comb! Excellent array of shots showing this menace from every angle, Harry; your usual thorough reportage!

I really dislike palm trees in gardens, not least because my skin is now so thin that I bleed at the merest contact with anything sharp. I did have a little palm a few years ago, but I attacked me so I set fire to it. Super clear photos of the horror.

I would think that the "stringy stuff" could be useful in making twine or rope. Something to keep in mind if, let say, you're on a deserted island. :) Nice collage Dad.

Zoom not only reveals the stringy stuff, but the whole fanned-out presence of the leaves or fronds. Zoomed, they really look like they're about to take over. They're formidable. Very detailed and motion-filled shots; and the strings look like either the leaves are unraveling before our eyes, or like there's some inventive insect who's weaving webs all through this "nest". Amazing, almost other-worldly sights, you got the genuine menace and in-your-face feeling of these beasts, via your pov and your closeup and your strong detail. Pretty damned frightening sights. Powerful camera work, sharp as a tack!
