Description

Not certain which species as I've been too busy gardening to ID it. They lie in wait for likely prey and then dart out and catch it. That long proboscis is used to suck the unfortunate insect dry. SO glad they are so small.

Great macro - you captured both the creature & the intricate vein pattern of the leaf in glorious detail...

Superb macro of the sly predator as it awaits its next victim. With its blood sucking proclivities, it could also be classified as a Vampire Fly.

Wonderful close up, I never seem to see these things, maybe I don't have my glasses on when gardening.

If it were the U.S., they'd probably demand it carries an ID. Fine shot of the hairy little beast. And yeah, insect eating habits leave a lot to be desired. (Proboscises aren't fine dinnerware.) You got the spikes on the back, that big proboscis, and a fascinating landscape on the leaf. Your eyes are alert every day. I've not shot one insect since getting a camera---not one. Yet you've given us numerous insects. Another fine macro from you, Andrea. And in fine contrast with that leaf. Well, I've done 12 images here, I think, and I'm over an hour in your wonderful gallery, so I'll leave you for today. But I'll be back! I see you just put up another upload---a wild pair of something or others, I just saw the thumbnail (what in the world ARE those things, lol! I'm gonna have to go and look...) Anyway it's always a joy to be here, as always. And I'll be back soon.
