Description
Hanley Farm is located across the road from the farm pictured in my last post & also dates from 1857. Unlike the other one, Hanley Farm continues to operate & hopefully will be around for a long time. From the Southern Oregon Historical Society site:
"Historic Hanley Farm, established in 1857, is a working farm just outside of downtown Jacksonville, Oregon. Owned and operated by SOHS, Hanley Farm strives to preserves the history of the people who settled the land and their contributions to the agricultural development of the Rogue Valley."
It was gifted to the Southern Oregon Historical Society in 1982 by Mary Hanley & is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. There are many events at Hanley Farm throughout the year, such as heirloom plant sales, holiday festivals & summer camps for children & it's also available to rent for birthdays, weddings, etc...

Gorgeous photo of a very beautiful old and historically significant farm. I too love the way you placed the white picket fence in the foreground. Thanks!

Such neat buildings! I wonder what the tower is for?

While I zoom for everything (as it's what we all intend), your work especially calls out for zoom, for all the beautiful details and hues that you bring out in a picture. More of your farm photography---you have a feel for them that's pure magic. I love your composition, the way the fence peaks-in about 3/4 of the way from left to right, and meets the old barn (or house? I assume that's a barn by its structure). And the rest of the background just opens up around it. A beautiful sky; and those clouds seem to be 'gracing' your shot, even framing it. And the tall white structure on the left---like Tara, I'm not sure what it's for (I know so little about farms, I'm embarrassed to say I can't even guess what to call that: a siloh, maybe)---I love how it's in shade: In these open field shots where you get such brilliant yellow light, the shade on the tower is a beautiful contrast. I think when you work with nature shots, from camera through postwork, you create magical kingdoms in the best sense of the term. They're very real and very magical. This is magical, and pays homage to old places like this. And the tall tree on the left envelops the image in a hug. Beautiful. I stopped and took a deep breath when you first posted it, and I still haven't exhaled.

I like that they have their own water tower and an old fashion windmill to pump the water up there!
