Description

Captured 5/20/14, not in ever rainy Seattle, but in and around my neighborhood, in ever parched Southern California. Although threatening looking, these clouds contained nothing of moisture value. ZOOM for coolness. Arrivederci.

Yeah, up here they'd be dumping all over us! They have that lovely blue-gray indicator of water content, but apparently they're stingy with it down south. Excellent capture of the snooty clouds, Harry!

This is a big canvas, all of one "gestalt," even though there are several formations here, along with the trees at bottom. But it feels like one of those huge abstracts from the 1980s, with a huge sweeping gesture (here, the clouds), and a big opening somewhere in the middle. This is a big swirl created by many clouds; and capturing the dark clouds on top and the light ones on bottom---a fine choice---makes it feel doomed and foreboding. And yes, the trees at the bottom---lined up so well it's as if you'd put them there like models---are all we need to root this jaw-like sky. Keenly caught and cropped. And it's amazing that clouds like these would produce nothing but shade: Boy you guys have it bad down there. A powerful capture of the power of nature.
