Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Excellent work Andrea, I too also like the tree's they really punctuate the piece but I also like the shadowing technique and the different textures used. I do so like the impasto.

I also like how the layers stand out against eachother, the colors and the tiny trees on top and the roots in the shadow under the surface. And the texture in the green bushes look awesome :-) So much to see if you look in full size :-) Excellent painting, Andrea :)

As above the trees really make the pic.

This is great art Andrea, and a stern reminder that you were an art teacher, students couldn't go wrong with this as a an example, you are so clever, I cannot draw a straight line.

Re: Obi_One, I CAN draw a straight line but that's about it. I will add my vote for this as a fine work of art. The trees on the cliff and what appear to be lichen covered area below make a wonderful abstract landscape.

Light and shadow, clouds and reflections, land sea and sky ... it's all beautiful! I've been staring for a while, and keep seeing new things. Wonderful! I'm thrilled to see this sort of work from you!

How thrilling! What a marvel of textures and shapes and such a delicious, absorbing mood! What a world you've created here and it's so rich in everything! I love the feeling this has, and the invitation that it offers. There are so many textures: almost as if it's a painting in Braille...something for the fingers as well as the eyes! I've seen the full sized version and it's just as hypnotic and appealing. I love the sense of depth this has: depth in two directions...downward and inward...it simply invites viewers in and provides all sorts of comfortable places. What a world this is, and I love those bulbous trees and their deep, river-roots. This is amazing! Simply perfect!

Amazing, love it!!

What they all said! And to Ronnie, straight lines are overrated! Meandering ones are so much more satisfying... really stunning work, Andrea, I'm speechless!

Zowie, chock full to the brim. I saw the flickr---thank you!---and I saw all the details, you put those bare trees everywhere, they're playing across the whole landscape. They could be cracks in the ground, but they're still those trees. And you've created a collage feeling, like the ground levels and rocks, etc, are actually pasted on. And a whole lot of detail in the lower sections---that green area in the lower left has all the colonies and shorelines that you put into your digital works. It's very cellular. And lots of layered land masses. And to top it all off, an overlay of pink strokes that just 'float' across the surface. It's got that representational and yet "this is paint on a surface" feel that you get in several of your digital manipulations, playing with representational depth vs pure visceral surface. I'm a big fan of that, and it's a big thing here. I love this, and I'm so happy to see all this 2D in your gallery of late. I hope you keep doing it. DDDD or no (lol), it's just terrific.

Reminds me of being by the sea on a rainy day.

Beautiful workmanship on this one Andrea and I did not notice the trees along the cliffs until I checked out the FlickR version!
