Description
Captured 4/3/14, looking northeast in the late afternoon, from the parking lot of my medical building, located off of Katella Avenue in beautiful Los Alamitos, California.
This was the ominous looking edge of a passing front of instability showers. So, although short lived, we did get rain out of this one. Previous photos of this same storm were posted recently in my Clouds and blue sky series, but I couldn't very well use the same title with this one, for obvious reasons. There was sun to the back of me, which explains the well lit building tops below.
A ZOOM will show better detail, especially of the buildings tops
Farvel.

An all too familiar sight here, I'm afraid!

I love when they get that deep, deep dark blue look; and then I hate when they move away without dropping anything on me. It happens too often for my taste (yes, I need to live in the rainforest, I guess). Stunning capture of this supercell daring to pass over SoCal without a by-your-leave!

We had a sky similar to this today. With deep dark clouds and light ones skimming along underneath. I was working and driving so I didn't get a shot. We got a bit of rain out of it, but not enough. I totally understand Denise's frustration with dark clouds that don't give up any of their precious cargo. That happens too often here too. Beautiful sky and great capture! The sky has wonderful layers. The line of dark blue fading as it goes up. Beautiful shading of the soft clouds at the top of the image. I like the way the tree and roof are lit up against the dark sky.

That backlit sun makes an otherworldly effect on the buildings and lights and poles at bottom. I love it when that happens! And it's very common in the Midwest, where storm clouds roll in, turn half the sky into night, yet the other half is bright and sunny, so you get these strange contrasts on the ground. Your inclusion of just snippets of houses and lights is perfect, as it gives the shot an otherworldly glow. As for the clouds, with Lucinda, I love the layers in this sky. You got the whites against those menacing blues beautifully. And what's great about it is that you go from light--on top--to almost impenetrable dark on the bottom, the opposite of what sunrises and sunsets do (where it's just the opposite). A true to life capture of an extraordinary sight. Very powerful, Harry. (Oh---and glad it brought you a little rain!)
