"Abundant everywhere" Ah yes that will be due to their nic name of the bonking beetle. Great shot my friend.

Excellent shot of this beetle; I haven't seen them here, which doesn't mean they aren't here, just that I haven't seen them, LOL!

Oh what a cutie! The closest we have to these are longhorn beetles (imported from Asia) and fireflies (not imported from Asia)...well...that only goes as far as body shape. These little people are quite gorgeous, and look at those graceful antennae! Someone sure knows how to pose for a camera. This is really wonderful, and as it's finally getting warm: those six-legged people are coming out soon! I like this photo a lot!

This is a softer shot than the flickr, as the flickr has major detail in the leaves, and the beetle is in an opposite position, also with head turned, but upside down. This is a closer shot, softer, and focusing more on the beetle itself. Fascinating that he appears to be floating in air. Such vivid hue on his upper body, and detail in his upper legs. You've been doing wonderful insect work for some time now, and it's amazing, as I have NEVER captured an insect, never even tried. But I can understand, given your collection of insect shots, why you say at certain pics, "it doesn't look like there are a lot of insects in there": You have a natural eye for them. This is a big bold closeup. I drew insects many times, and I marvel at their amazing variety and mechanical parts---like they were constructed in a child's construction set. They never cease to amaze with their shields, shells, incandescence, stained-glass-window wings, strange appendages and spikes, ribbed limbs and knuckles...they're something from a fantasy land, and there are so MANY of them. They're the vastest kingdom on this planet, and their variety is mind boggling. I can understand why you're so constantly drawn to photograph them. Scintillating. ("Beetle" is cognate with "bite"---I guess they were named for their pincers and appetite.)

Yes, I did go and look these creatures up. I like these red coated ones best! Marvelous capture! Related to the fireflies, which I love. Shame these guys don't' light up too!

The FlickR version looks more aggressive (thus the Soldier name) than the RR version. Much clarity on the FlickR side also!
