Description
Far out on the edge of the Snæfellsnes peninsula facing the Breida Fjord lies the fishing village of Stykkishólmur. A good example of the little towns that one encounters along the coast of Iceland, the people make their living fishing the cold and sometimes dangerous waters for scallops and cod. But Stykkishólmur has one advantage over the other villages. For the last fifteen years the residents have worked hard to build a reputation for eco-tourism. They offer treks into the local countryside and excursions on the Breida Fjord. We didn’t have the time for all this so we had to content ourselves with climbing up to the Súgandisey lighthouse and taking in the view from there.
In this image you can see an example of the basalt rock that is the bedrock for Iceland.

All seem to live outside of cities in harmony with the nature. When I see your pictures I think that Iceland only consists of basalt and glacier. A wonderful mix. Deep in the Earth's core boiling hot and so cool on the outside. Oh God, the lighthouse has the size of a Käfers.. compared with the rock.

Such a beautiful and fascinating place! I bet there isn't an inch of Iceland that isn't a fabulous photo op.
