Wow, wow, wow; the mood in this piece is absolutely superb, Mark. It feels like a dark, solemn opening movement in a majestic piece of music. I love the lines of water showing through the flat plates of ice pointing the eye right toward the dark and mist-shrouded city. The light is eerie, and gives a strong sense of something about to happen. What a masterpiece you've created here!

Mark, allow me to also praise you for this outstanding job of photography. I absolutely agree with the thoughts expressed of how well you captured the atmosphere of this majestic setting. This is one photograph I could literally study for hours and keep on finding something new about it.

Wow, what an intriguing photo. That dark area is like this strange misshapen path across the water, leading to the mysterious cityscape in the mist. And then the black and white gives it an additional aura of mystery, as if it is a story that happened a long time ago. Really great work.

What an epic shot. It looks like an apocalyptic landscape to me - it just feels like a city in the far distant future when mankind has become extinct & only the artifacts of our civilization remain. It also reminds me of the scenes in the film 12 Monkeys that take place in a future New York in winter. Great composition & perfect postwork...

I'm with Andrea. Atmosphere thick enough to cut with a knife:) Love it.

Oh my, frigid desolation done in sepia style, Mark. Shades of the movie, AI. What a fabulous rendering you have presented us with here. Love those foggy and dire looking effects, along with the narrow tributaries in the ice joining forces with that large jagged crack, as it wends its way into the distance toward the Chicago skyline, moodily partly encumbered in the dark mist. Magnificent job, my friend. And I read something today about icebergs in Lake Superior? What madness is this?

Omg, this is beyond awesome. First, that lake of yours is freakin frozen, yet there's that fracture that looks nasty and ready to eat someone. Then it leads your eye right tot he city and the FOG. Your fog's a lot different than the fog here, but it still lends that eerie, gloomy feeling. This is the kind of shot that lends itself to scary movies and nightmares!!

I know exactly where this is. I was just there about a week-and-a-half ago. It didn't look like this. There was fog. And sunlight, too. The fog was ragged and it seemed impatient. There were people on Oak Street beach: a lot of them were still winter pale, winter-pink, and that odd sort of cream color that really doesn't have a name, even though it probably does, in some seriously foreign language. I bring that up because I love the contrast of this image when I compare it to what I've seen. The buildings are the same, and there's fog. I recognize The Drake, and the other things as well, but in many ways, this is a different place, as well. I love your treatment of this image, and it has a particular sense of openness. I don't know if this makes sense, but when I think of the images I made, and compare them to this one, this image seems like a pause, a space: not an absence or a void, or any kind of emptiness, but instead, breathing room...there are so many ways to move around in this image, there are so many ways in, and the most prominent of them is along that fissure, which logically leads the eye inward. The fog and the buildings define the depth in this, and the darkness sandwiched in between layers of snow and fog really appeals to me. It's funny that I'm looking at this while listening to a piece of music. I'm attempting to bribe my Muse into returning from her coffee break, but I think she's busy gossiping with the other Muses, and what's really amazing is that as I'm writing this comment, I'm listening to "Pact of Brothers" a part of the "Caprica" soundtrack by Bear McCreary and it's amazing just how perfectly this image fits with an unrelated piece of music (from a science fiction television show, no less!) This is brilliant, and I suspect seeing this while hearing a particular piece of music is just what it takes to get my Muse back out of the break room! This is quite a stunning, wonderfully evocative piece of visual art and it's making its way into my Favorites! If you're interested, you can hear "Pact of Brothers" on YouTube, just cut and paste the link address for an earful of what I'm listening to as I write this comment... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5lIzMSAA0M

This sight looks like one of the days, when you say: "Is this winter ever going to end" Atleast the ducks have a tiny road across the bay where they are still able to swim, but oh, does that fog means warmer weather? I hope it did :) What a fantastic shot this is. Love it. Especially when I can turn around and look out of my window and seee green in green :D
