Très belle photo noir et blanc. J'aime bien l'atmosphère de ce noir prononcé qui met en valeur l'escalier.

Wonderful architecture in those stairs, and an interesting study of light and shadow, with an air of mystery in the dark area beneath the stairs, and what look like tiny glowing eyes in the darkness.

Love the way that stairway snakes & contorts in such an unconventional way. Also the unusual ring pattern in the railing of the straight section in the foreground. And it jumps out at you right away because the diagonal has that strong (yet subtle) violet tinge, while everything else around it has been stripped of detail & texture by being turned into stark black & white (with just the slightest violet shading in a few spots). A wonderful piece of work...

Mark, this truly is an architectural work of art. I hardly know where to begin with my comments as the level of detail on display here is truly astonishing. First of all the mere fact that a design such as this would be on an exterior is highly unusual. The lovely ascending stairway catches the eye from the moment you glance at the photo. I know just enough about wrought iron work to be dangerous, and realize the amount of time involved in creating just the railing is overwhelming. The patterns contained within it could only be crafted by an experienced hand, at great expense. The same goes for the formfitting railing on the upper level, which would also present various challenges to the creator. I have a longtime friend who does such work and I can't wait to show him this layout. Having said all of that I have yet to comment on the rest of the structure which includes the intricate design of the steps leading upward.

Basically, what romanceworks and photosynthesis said in their assessment of the high key, plus silhouetted, rendering of this fascinating architectural Rubik's cube, Mark. Lots of repetition, especially of the stairs, on display, and I like the tree images at the right, which balances out the ambiance of artificial and natural. On another point, if you find that my posting of three photos a day has taxed your comments to the max, I can reduce it to two pictures a day, either that, or you can reduce the length of your comments, giving you more time to handle your other comment responsibilities. My ebots, for whatever aggravating reason, have been coming in slow, late and incomplete each day, so I'm sure that you will bear with me.

I find these buildings (homes I think) to be quite riveting. I recognize the parallel, horizontal railings and turned cornerpost (near building) to be almost identical to those found in the old coastal artillery forts we've visited built between 1898 and 1910. I see features on the farther away brick building that are found on the old brick buildings at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas build around the turn of the 20th century. As for your treatment of them photographically, the composition...the black and white and yes, what appears to be a violet tinge on the stairs makes for a re"mark"able result. Love it!

Well, I should have gotten here earlier! All the good seats have been taken, and there's little left to say. That twisty bit makes the shot, of course. It's the grace note, the unexpected frivolity, the "Things that makes you go, 'Huh?' " (Don't you love complicated punctuation when it's done right?) :D
