Description

Hi Everyone. Sorry about the disappearing posts...it was one of those mornings, family illness etc. It was just a difficult start... In the meantime, I got instructions to stay off the computer this weekend, my back needs to heal. I've had this since youth, I just have to care for it when it hits. The pic is dawn near home. (Again, much better big.) Finally, I'm very grateful for your constant flow of art, I never take it for granted. It's glorious to see what you do here every day. Have a fine night Mark

What a beautiful red sky; I could almost think it was the atmosphere of another planet, maybe someplace that Chip has written about. Perhaps it's a world of water, with land only a rumour? A lovely photo that sucks you in on zoom, you can almost feel the breeze...take it easy on your back, we'll wait for you!

Oh my, this is stunning in its starkness, contrast, color blends, depth and composition, Mark, plus your willingness to sacrifice your camera sensor by shooting directly into the sun, something I'm guilty of also, but a no-no among photographers in general. I think you must have taken this pic in its normal state, then printed out the image, followed by dipping it into a vat of blood (but whose blood?), or perhaps cranberry juice, for that spectacular effect, letting it dry, then photographing the finished article for posting. You are so clever. Now, how am I supposed to emulate that? There's always a challenge to meet. Finally, kudos your way for having the wherewithal to post this, despite your chronic back problem. Be well.

OH wow, this is gorgeous. What is it they say about red skies---"red sky at night, sailor's delight, red sky at morning, sailors take warning?" What ever part of the day this is, it simply blasts off!! And the poor guy at the bottom, I hope he survived!!

That red makes this vaguely alarming! A pre apocolyptic image!

I really love this image! It is beautifully dramatic, with the blood red water, deep contrast, and fiery sky. The birds in the distance are more visible than in the original and make a wonderful and kind of eerie companionship to the solitary figure. Yes, this image does have an ominous mood. It makes me think of the dark skies and distant rumbles of an oncoming storm. It is beautiful, magnificent, and just a tad worrying. Fantastic image!

Mark, first of all let me say that I thoroughly enjoyed this lovely presentation. Reading the thoughtful comments from everyone else adds to the experience, and expands on my own vision. Lucinda made a wonderful point about the blood red water, and how truly dramatic this capture is. Everything about this is perfect, from the sun playfully dancing with the clouds to the shadowy figure strolling along the beach at just the right moment. Of course we all know it was your time mean that made this the right moment as well as your skill in selecting just the right location.

Oops, I saw the follow-on to this first. The composition is striking and something for me to think about in the future! The coloring is all you. Like the way the walker is just inside the edge of the frame providing her with the entire width of the photo to walk through...give her a nudge would you please? :-)

Very beautiful capture and motif, Mark. Somehow, it makes me feel calm and relaxed. I read somewhere about illness of your sister. Maybe she is represented as the shadowed character in this image, i am not sure. Prayers and best wishes that it will be ok. I hope life treats you well on this fine day.
