Description

When I saw this bee, I was so astonished I could barely hold the camera still. I went back to this wisteria bush day after day, hoping for a closer shot, but only saw him that one day. I have searched at bug guide dot net till I am cross-eyed as ID'ing insects can be quite tricksy. But I (think) this is a Melissodes (Callimelissodes) stearnsi. It doesn't quite fit the qualifications for a Long-Horned Bee but seemingly more for a type of Digger Bee. Thanks for viewing and thanks very kindly for your previous comments and faves.

Could be a blue-eye'd carpenter bee.

Thanks for your suggestion, but there were Carpenter Bees there that day, they were as large as bumblebees, this guy was very tiny. :)

I may not know what genus this bee is, but I know it's a darn good shot Maria.

Thank you, Richard, for looking up this page. They also have some pics taken in Texas, so I'm basing my 'guess' on these images.
