Description

Karen and I escaped for a week in Wales....seven days of clear skies and glorious sunshine....I actually got sunburn! No phone, no internet, no television, so no bloody football, BLISS. We hadn't stayed at this cottage before, above Dolgellau, in the shadow of Cader Idris. Arriving at 5pm, we unpacked had some tea and sat on the patio watching the RAF fly up the valley opposite. 2 C-130 Herculese, a few of the new Hawk T2's and a brace of Typhoons, great start to the holiday. Late on, we decided to drive ten minutes up the road to the lake, here we could look down on Barmouth as the sun set. I love the colours and shadows at this time and got a few good shots. I didn't sleep too well the first night ( too hot ) and so got up at 04:30 am and in contrast to all the sunsets, I shot the sunrise.....This was Saturday, the longest day of the year and by 10pm it felt like it. My camera started playing up in the afternoon, unpleasant lines and not focusing....then it simply died. Fortunately I had my Cannon pocketjobby and that had to do for the rest of the week. When I found myself sat by another lake on Thursday, I could have cried, we were at the end of a valley and it was like an RAF motorway got a couple of half decent shots of Typhoons and Tornado's.....if only my camera.....but then, there'll be other days. Still managed a few good pano's which I'll post, Wales is a spectacular country but add sunshine and even after 35 years of holidays and visits, I still said WOW!! a few times......

Beautiful unspoiled (at least it looks that way) lake. If I ever make it to the land of my forefathers, Scotland, I may have to make a small detour to Wales. Looks incredible.

Ohhhhhhh ... what a beautiful place! Sorry (sort of) about the planes, but I'd rather look at the pretty scenery anyway. :)

Gorgeous shot! Definitely worth a zoom in. The contrast of light and shadow really makes this piece! The vanishing point provided by the contrails gives the photo a very nice dynamic. Wonderful work!

Awesome shot, Neil! Just goes to show you that the photographer's eye is much more important than the gear he/she carries.

You went to Wales, the RAF training highway and took no camera? Dude! Shock? No matter, this is stunning, lovely and relaxing, hope your break was good.. Bad news : My trip to Eastbourne (Two Lanc's), was cancelled by the coach firm, so no Lanc's! :-( So the year gets crapper! lol Rob

Cool scene mate and it's always great to get away. All those aircraft are just an added bonus ;-)
