My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

There's so much going on in this image and I love every bit of it; there's light and color, there are textures and shapes and all sorts of interesting, fun things, and what strikes me the most is the various details: the beak and its texture and how it's so different from the feathers, and the feathers themselves differ, and for all that's going on in this shot, it's all unified. This looks to be one smart bird too: did you know that scientists have recently learned that the term "bird brain" is probably quite inaccurate since there's more than goes on in a bird's brain that previously thought? The corvids are showing us that, since they seem to possess "culture" in that they teach their offspring various things that have nothing to do with survival (oh, and they ski and snowboard too.) Ah...birds! This is a stunning shot! Oh, and albums...I suspect those are fun to do, though I have yet to do one. I always think of albums as the digital art version of those mix tapes that were so popular back in the days when we were able to put all sorts of unrelated songs on a single cassette tape and walk around with a Sony Walkman, being oh-so-cool.

Now that's a happy bird. He is smiling for his picture. Chip is correct about the studies on birds. They now know that some birds like crows and parrots will design tools to help them get food. Until the last 10 years or do it was Thought that only apes and monkeys could do this. Studies see being done on several species to learn more about their intelligence. Turns out that many animals have a much greater level of cognitive function as well as emotion. Got to wonder. If it took humans this long to figure this out..... Who is "Just a dumb animal "? This is a beautiful picture. I love the light and color.

Don't get a finger in there! although they can be very gentle if they like you a lot. It is a superb portrait, and makes me laugh. Brilliant news about the albums, I shall spend a wet evening one day looking at them!

That is a big bird! And I must say he looks quite pleased with this lovely portrait you took of him, Tara! I've thought about the album thing - I guess I could have an album for the T.N.A. story....

I can never tell the hyacinth macaws apart, so I don't know if you got Manduvi, Payaso or Cocha, but whichever of them you captured here she's lovely. They do love attention, don't they? They'll flirt and preen and run through all their tricks for as long as you care to stand there and talk to them. They are so pretty!

How marvelous he looks! I loved seeing one in person at the zoo. Brilliant portrait!

Love it so much. I couldnt get this close in real life. Such wonderful detail in those feathers and that great face. Beautiful shot!

Wow, look at the schnoz on that guy! What a terrific close up portrait. The details are superb. I have some new neighbors and they have a Scarlet Macaw. It likes to whistle at people as they walk by.

That color just blows me away!

Really beautiful portrait of this fine bird. My experiences with parrots are that they can be very affectionate and are highly intelligent. Each i have met have very distinct personalities.

It's an impressing bird, and capture, Tara. It looks like it wants to tell you something, and on the same time it has a chuckle. So clever of you to make these albums a very good idea of Andrea. I have the intense to go visit your albums, seems interesting, and thanks for mentioning it, my friend; this must have been a lot of work maybe, huh?.
