Description
These are the Hraunfossar Waterfalls (Hraun = lava, fossar = falls). Notice anything different about them? There is no water cascading down from the top of the picture.
Hraunfossar consists of numerous small springs that emerge from under the edge of a lava field known as Hallmundarhraun and flow into the Hvita River. The lava was laid down around 800 A.D. shortly before the arrival of the first settlers from Europe.
