Description
Stratiomis potamida.
It was very exciting to see this insect on an Echium seedling leaf while I was doing my hosepipe rain dance last evening.
(Which, I have to tell you, was extremely successful, resulting in a satisfying downpour!)

OH! I suddently remember once, when my younger son was 10 and we lived in a row house and the neighbors were having a wild garden party and we couldnt sleep. It had been hot and dry weather for weeks and weeks. I suggested that we should dance a rain dance. And we danced very quiet on the other side of the hedge :) 10 minutes later it began raining and all the People had to go inside. LOL !

Marvelous macro of the unarmed Soldier Fly and mottled leaf, A. You get insects and rain, which is just a myth around here. Incidentally, it reached over 100-degrees Fahrenheit in my patio today.
