Description

The order was founded in 1745. This is a close-up. The ring is marked "JG" for Joseph Godet, a jeweler based in Vienna. "917" indicates its silver content (of 1000 parts), making it "German Sterling" for the pre-1918 days. The medal is made from nine distinct parts: four arms, four eagles and a hanging bar. In this photo, one can see two of the enameled arms (and a bit of a third), and one of the eagles. All are crafted by hand. The very slight imperfections on the enamel are characteristic of original pieces. In reproduction pieces, the imperfections are absent, as the enamel mix is purer than the original hand-mixed powder. More photos to follow. Thank you for your visit and comments.
