Description
The Mammoth Hot Springs area has what I considered to be the most interesting & perhaps beautiful thermal features in Yellowstone. The hot springs here have carved the landscape into fantastic terraced shapes. The ones in this photo are fairly monochromatic, but some of them have a dazzling range of subtle color shifts. I haven't gone through all my photos of this area yet, but I definitely will have a few more to post...

Those stair step formations have always fascinated me. I can imagine (but would never do it) wandering around out there, enjoying climbing to the top. It's a fantasy of course, but still ... it's such an engaging landscape!
