A peep into the not so distant past. Such a strange mood, I expect an imminent assassination!

This is really, beautifully brooding! The light slides over and around surfaces, while darkness seems to tiptoe, shimmer, and settle. The two play together incredibly well, and the monochrome enhances this play, in all of the most absolutely-perfect ways. I love the walls, the details on those walls, and the sense of age that this simple stairway possesses. It's odd seeing this, from within the confines of Chicago, because if something has details here, it's old. Chicago has settled into a long infatuation with the new, or as Olive Oyl said in the live action version of Popeye, "mass produced ugliness." I much prefer the alternative: the kind of deliciously, rich, moody stuff that you capture so perfectly. As always, this is brilliant.

The thing that strikes me most is the shape of the window and the shape of the stairwell "room." The architect did a good thing, repeating the shape, and you did a masterful job at showing it. For me, that repeated shape provides the foundation for the light to play and fall and pool and soar. There is so much going on here, so many intriguing shadows, so many differences between one side and the other, between light and dark. It's marvelous!

How amazingly beautiful this staircase is, on its own; you have made it into art with your keen eye and ability to use the light to paint its features. Well done indeed!
