Description


This image is fascinating in that those rods are formed: common extrusive igneous (volcanic) rock formed from the rapid cooling of basaltic lava exposed at or very near the surface of a planet or moon. In this shot you can easily see the trails and rails don't have vertigo when you climb this one!

Interesting image. Looks great in zoom. The basalt I saw in Iceland is much more sharply defined and an orangey color. This formation is probably much older that the formations in Iceland.

An excellent explanation of Beacon Rock's creation and I could see the railings in original post! Very cool place! Sort of like Moro Rock's granite dome formation in Sequoia National Park, California. A sweet shot Mike!!
