They're not only beautiful, but useful. If you get into a patch of nettles, rubbing the spore side of a fern leaf on your skin will provide relief from the itchy, burning sting. In these parts (the PNW) nettles and ferns always grow near each other, so the antidote is always at hand. Ain't nature grand? A gorgeous shot, btw. Beautiful!
