Description

Fort Gaines Dauphin Island, Alabama This young man seemed to be having a good day! I bet he went home and told all his friends about the old fort he'd seen. Notice the paper in his hand. That's a program, or cheat sheet, which provides information to the curious. He made me think of what Bill must have been like at that age ... a history buff in the making. :)

It was a rough life for a military man back in those days. Wonderful photo manip. I assume this is the same young man.

Clever! I love it when kids get excited about something real. As for cheat sheets, if only! History was taught so extremely badly when I was at school that we never left the classroom or indeed got past the Tudors. And nobody mentioned the war. So different now.

You're getting really good at these! How about a little background on how you did it? Did you direct this young man to walk a certain way or did you catch him without his knowledge? If the latter, how did that paper magically appear in his left hand?

I took three shots of the kid while he was walking along the sidewalk looking in the various windows and doors. As far as I know, he was unaware I was taking his picture. (I'm unsure as to your question about the paper ... he really was holding it in his left hand.) Layer the shots, line them up right, make layer masks, take away everything but the person, and make sure you remember to include the shadows!

At the museum I worked at we gave the kids a information scavenger hunt paper. Most of the time it ended up on the ground. Neat Fort.

Nice job with the compositing. And the reminder about the shadow. I had to look twice before I grasped what you have done. My original interpretation was 3 little boys from private school in school uniform. Keep up the good work! :-)

WAIT A MINUTE........... I bow at your alter, Tara! You really had me going for a minute - at first I thought they were triplets... Seriously - in addition to just being a great photo on its own, your compositing is absolutely flawless! This is outstanding! And it is very refreshing to see a young man in this age group interested in something besides the latest game on his tablet.
