Description

Houmas House Louisiana On our tour of Houmas House the guide pointed out this silver statue of Abraham Lincoln. She said how much the silver was worth if it were melted down, but I don't recall. Somewhere around $15,000, I believe. Of course in its present form it's probably priceless. She encouraged everyone to touch it as they passed by into the next room. Some sort of good luck, I suppose. I took a picture instead. I bet if you came here from a bot, you thought I took another car picture, didn't you? :P

Ok, you got me. A copper Rolls, a silver Lincoln. Can a platinum Cadillac be far behind? Its a wonderful likeness but Lincoln was a modest man and would probably be embarrassed if he saw this.

Silver feels so good, no wonder they make stuff out of it that you're supposed to put in your mouth! I should also say that when I first saw the title to this, I realized that I've been absorbing Corey, because the first thing I thought was that I'd see a photo of a car. This is such a brilliant photo. Lincoln (the president, not the car) has such a bright, shimmery presence and I love the contrast to the rest of the photo, and the whole photo pops. I love the details. I can wander around in it, especially in the warmer, darker colors. And Mr. non-automotive-Lincoln has such textures and brilliance. This rocks!

Me too! I admit. He is so much more interesting and touchable than any vehicle. (Even a copper Roller) I love this photo which evokes 'museum' so well.

You got me too - that was a sly trick! But this is a fine composition - it has a kind of classical feel to it & all the elements seem to harmonize perfectly. Weird story: There was a statue of Lincoln in Ashland, Oregon that was erected in 1916. For some strange reason, the statue has been decapitated four times since then - in 1958, 1967, 1973 & 2008. Nobody really knows why - it seems to have been senseless vandalism. It has been put away in storage several times & eventually reconstructed each time, except for the last time - I don't where the statue is now...

I did, I confess, fully expect to see a nice car. I should know better with you! This is fascinating, the silver Lincoln and the black dog, and that haunting dark painting behind...well done!

I really like this shot. The warm atmosphere in the room and Lincoln looks like he is about to get up from the bench. Excellent shot, Tara :-)

That old fellow just keeps getting more valuable all the time! I think the reason to encourage everyone to touch it is that that would help keep the silver oxide off and the lustre high.

LOL! Yup - after that copper Rolls...... I was fully expecting a Lincoln in sterling..... with wheels! This is even more fascinating, though - what a wonderful shot, Tara!
