Description

Hi. I stepped away to work, and tend to family illness. But in the last few weeks, a problem arose in my home. A very heavy odor has washed into my apartment and probably into a few neighbors'. And no one can figure out who's causing it, or what it is. My high rise's management has tried to get answers, but several tenants aren't answering. Therefore, they may need legal action, which is lengthy and difficult. In the meantime, I've been breathing in a mix of several heavy smokes, like 16 cigars in a closet, with mildew and rot. And it's made me sick. It's so thick some days---invisible but weighty---that my unit has felt like a factory with heavy fumes. I've had to leave here for several hours at a time. It's why I haven't been commenting: My comments take real concentration, and I don't have that now. I'm sorry about that, but until this is solved, I won't be able to be here much. Nevertheless, I've looked at every upload, so I know what you're doing, and as always, I've loved it. I'm just not commenting. I hope that changes soon. Re this image: I was postworking a flower when the odor started pouring in...So I tried to "paint" the stages: The odor gets more and more "stinging" until it's like 30 cigars and grass mixed with burning molasses and god-knows-what, all concentrated in one room. And you feel this "lightning wave" of pungent stings. I tried to capture that in an image. Hope it's interesting if nothing else. I left comments on, but you don't have to comment (since I can't yet). I just wanted to share. Thank you for looking, and for your patience. I hope you're all well, and I wish you a peaceful and inspired week ahead. Be well everyone, I miss you. Mark It's much better zoomed.

Mark - So sorry to hear about the odor problems & the effect that it's having on you & your neighbors. Has somebody contacted your local health department? It sounds like something that needs to be taken seriously! The images are great - I like all the different styles & variations...

You make it look so much more pleasant than I'm certain it actually is; and if the smell is making you (and others) ill then it's a legal issue and they have an obligation to investigate it ASAP, or you can cause all kinds of legal hardship. It could be someone doing some sort of illegal business in their home, and that becomes more and more of a problem with so many immigrants that don't understand our laws here. Anyway, while you might be negatively affected by the condition this work is amazingly lovely in its increasing complexity from beginning to end. Good luck getting it sorted so you can actually live in your home!

Beyond the shadow of doubt, I can see the corrosive effects taking over frame by frame. Maybe an added last frame of black could signify you bolting out of your apartment and slamming the door behind you. Might there be any opportunity to move and leave this mess behind you? Once the sixtieth birthday passes...a person shouldn't be living on the edge...but instead enjoying the fruits of a long life's positive experiences.

I can certainly see the transition from neutral to toxic in your progressive artwork, and the end looks like sharp pointy blasts to your senses. Really sorry to hear you are having this major problem. Who knows what is causing the odor, and not knowing somehow makes it much worse. It seems your rights, and your well being are being threatened, and the landlord/manager needs to get on it asap. I wonder if there is some kind of thing you can put in your apartment that absorbs odors. I do hope this is resolved soon, as the situation not only sucks but also stinks!!!

Since you're feeling so lousy and dispirited because of your situation, Mark, I will defer to the commenters preceding me, for any advice, analysis and words of hope.

I can only imagine what it must be like to live with a disturbance like that: smells are far more pervasive (and easier to locate) than sounds rendered by noisy neighbors, and I shudder to think what might be causing an odor that disturbs multiple residents. Hopefully, the problem is resolved soon, and without legal action. As for this image: as always, it's quite beautiful and I love the manner in which it shifts from something sepia-toned, to something more fractalized. As I've been in writing mode of late, I can't help but think that the image follows the plot of some wordless story; it has that strong sense of movement, transformation, and even revelation, though it also strikes me as a story told from end to beginning, but not like a series of flashbacks...more like a mystery in which a conscious search reveals the origin of whatever event might be depicted. I love the way the image seems to break, to corrode in a sense, but like most forms of corrosion, there's a kind of dark beauty to it, something outside of the realm of conventional beauty. I love the way this becomes more and more complex, and in a sense it's a bit like looking into a microscope...the tighter your focus, the more details reveal themselves, and I think the up-to-down movement in this image really drives that point home. It is like zooming magnification, or like an examination of intentions behind actions, even if the action is simply sitting still. The deeper in one looks, the more complexity is revealed, and at last, there's the glow, the flash of light, and that it comes last (bottom-most) almost gives the impression that we're looking at a series of images, all leading back to their creative spark, and well...what's not to like about that. This is a brilliant, wonderfully-textured piece of work. I like it immensely!

I can't even imagine how bad it must be. Your visual representation is nauseating ... which means you've done an excellent job of showing us what you're going through. Yuk! Consider Claude's advice ... I think it's very good. Lawyering up isn't your only course of action. Take good care ...

Mark, let me say first of all what a stunning job you did on this flower and the variations. One can hardly imagine how you were able to create such images considering the circumstances you were attempting to deal with. Speaking of which let me also say how truly sorry I am you are being exposed to such a putrid environment. Maybe I'm alone in my thinking, but in my view if you are putting the health of those around you at risk you should lose certain rights. Someone should be able to go into the complex to find out the cause, then they should remove the source as well as the culprit behind it. To close on a more positive note let me say a simply thank you for this upload tonight. Despite all you are dealing with, and the health concerns associated with it you took time out to share this lovely presentation with us. Your actions in putting off your own concerns in order to shine a little light into the lives of your friends is an example we all should attempt to emulate.

If only it we so easy. I truly hope the problem gets resolved SOON, no one should be subjected to such funk.

WOW! this image is showing us your feelings in this moment, And I see it before me and I can feel the discusting odor you are having. It is like the petunias are ending up coughing their last pollen out and just fall apart. I am SO sorry this unpleasant and health threatening odor is happening to you, dear Mark. I sincerely hope they will solve this mystery and fix the problem very soon. No one should be allowed spoiling other peoples health with such discusting odor. They should be kicked out of there.

Wonderful expression, Mark. I like the way each image in the collage get more and more poisoned, chronologically. I am sorry to hear about that terrible polution phenomenon. Sure hope a solution is found, pretty fast. Legal action sound like a time consuming procedure.
