Description

Calopteryx splendens male. There are many of these boys competing for airspace by the river this month. I have a box of wings, which the swallow rip off and drop on the path as they eat them.

lovely capture; they are difficult to "catch" so vivid and busy they are

This are such beautiful insects, and I just love the textures of their wings. What the hell, you found many signs of the destruction of these beautiful creatures, Andrea. Yes, it is natural, but still, I've never found 'loose wings' on my way, while a lot of those kind are around here. (lucky me, ànd the Sweikhuizen ones)

These are one of my favourites ever since as a kid when fishing with my late father in the early mid 70's I witnessed a myriad of different colours all flying around a forest pond... always stuck in my mind.

I had no idea dragonflies came with so much bling. Spectacular image. The markings on the wings remind me of peacocks. So what will you do when the box is full?

I wonder will you make a cape of the wings when you have enough? Or a wall hanging? He's certainly a beautiful fellow!
