Description

I struggled with a topic set recently for one of the Flickr challenges,"Disaster" as NOTHING is a disaster compared to the outrageous tragedy of the shooting down of the plane this week. However, this collapse was probably a disaster for the maker of the pot. I rescued it from a bin at art college where I taught a pottery evening class because I rather liked it and it has been lurking in my garden for about 45 years! See another angle on this object Here

Interesting pot you're right, in comparison, this doesn't even qualify as a minor goof

Yes, I see why you added it to your garden. It had a fantastic surface and the shapes are odd but very interesting :)

Had it not collapsed, it might never have spent such a wonderful 45 years. And I'd guess it gets comments by every visitor.

Not much use as a pot, Andrea, but as an art piece it works very well. Cool capture :)

Indeed it was a wise decision all those years back to rescue it, one potters disaster is another persons piece of interesting sculpture. The weathering has undoubtedly added an interesting patina too it. Nice shots.

Sort of a Salvador Dali thing going on here. Its a great looking pot and the artist who discarded it missed out. Some artists do this deliberately to their pieces and some collectors seek them out.

What's trash for one is art for another. I might have tried to plant petunias in it or something. Nice save and nice shot.

I'll bet many generations of insects have made use of its protection. I love it!

I like the textures in your collapsed pot and imagine that many an insect lived in there over 45 years!

To my eye, this is SO much more interesting than if it had turned out as the maker had hoped! The glaze is beautiful, the shape is wonderfully gourd-like, and the slumped neck gives it the feeling of a comfy couch. I would have kept it, too. It's a marvelous piece!
