Description

Now this has got to be one of the most unusual cars I've ever seen. It is a 1938 Phantom Corsair. The designer, Rust Heinz, planned to put it into limited production but died shortly after this experimental model was completed. Without a doubt, this is the most futuristic automotive design to come out of the 1930s. It was called the Flying Wombat in the 1938 movie, The Young In Heart, staring Paulette Goddard, Janet Gaynor, Billy Burke and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. National Automobile Museum Reno, Nevada October 2013

Fantastic mate, My brain near went into nuclear meltdown at the title, I am thinking, hand on a minute, there is a flying fox and a fly squirrel, I have NEVER heard of a flying Wombat, that is of course unless you hit one in this fantastic car, btw, Heinz (Same as the food family one assumes) Would have changed the world had he gone ahead with this, trouble is you'd have been spoilt for choice, because it would have come in 57 varieties

We think we are modern these days, with all our gadgets etc..........but just look at this from the 1930's! And the driver had passengers sitting on both sides of him in the front seat! The mighty old Cord eh!

Stellar capture, and I never saw the movie. The first thing that came to mind when I first saw this was, what a beautiful and shiny galosh. You can tell by the bumper that it's a product of the 1930s.

If I hadn't seen the car myself, I would have thought you'd warped the image somehow to get it to look like this. Your low angle really shows off the beauty of the design. Great shot!

Oh I DO like this, Bill. Fantastic image. Thanks for the description. I was trying to figure out which super hero had driven it. Why is it that the really cool cars are never released to the public?
