Description

Believe it or not, this is the same hawk I posted yesterday. This is the day I picked it up from my brother, my critter sitter. I don't know what I would have done this year without his help. He currently has 2 baby raccoons that have taken over his life! They are also very demanding. I will pick them up in the next week or so. He picked this hawk up for me a few days prior as I live about 2 hours from where it was found. The hawk was about 3 weeks old here. Red shoulder hawks are VERY noisy and demand to be fed from sun up to sun down. Yesterdays shot was 2 weeks after this one. As you can see, they grow fast. This bird was released last week.

"Be afraid. Be VERY afraid!" (quote from Monty Python). Looks like he's trying to impress, getting as big as he can. Cute, but not if he comes out - ouch! Or maybe just taking a stretch and a yawn. Constant eating to get the nutrients for a fast growth so it can mature quickly to survive in the wild. Over 2 weeks one really can see where all that food has gone - building a mature body and all the energy which goes into doing so. And the little critter doesn't even have to think "growth", it just eats and growth happens. Marvelous, isn't it? Keep up the good work! :-)
