Looks more like a red hot stairway to hell, except then this woman would be headed in the wrong direction, so I see your point. A very intense, surreal & creative image. I happen to be reading Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett right now - it's a very funny book about the ultimate battle between heaven & hell & so this image has a particular resonance for me...

I always thought the trip would be by escalator. Striking atmosphere. The reflections on the walls and the brilliant colors make it seem as though she is walking over hot coals or something molten.
