Description
HMS Warrior and her sister ship HMS Black Prince were the first armour-plated, iron-hulled warships.
Built for the Royal Navy in 1859–61, she is 420 feet (128 m) long, has a beam of 58 feet 4 inches (17.8 m) and a draught of 26 feet 9 inches (8.2 m).
She was commissioned on 1 August 1861 and was in active service until 31 May 1883.
After decommissioning, she served at various times as a storeship, a depot ship, a torpedo training school ship and, finally, she was converted into an oil jetty in 1927 and served in that role until 1979.
The restoration process took eight years and, when this was finished, she returned to Portsmouth as a museum ship and has been based there since 1987.

A beautiful ship, but not the first seagoing ironclad warship. She was built in response to the French Gloire laid down in 1859 and commissioned in 1860. As the British were the world's foremost naval power, it was no surprise the Warrior far outclassed the Gloire.

I knew about Gloire, but Warrior was not an ironclad. It was the first armour plated iron hulled ship. No wood till you get to the decking. :-)
