It's good you were behind him, but I still wouldn't trust him. They have eyes in the back of their heads! Fantastic shot, and I know Chip will love it!

Beautiful photo of this fellow drinking. What amazes me is the minimal nervous system these creatures have, yet they react to drying by knowing they need water, finding it and drinking it. And to hunger by finding exactly the food they are designed to eat. They even seem to have a self-awareness. They definitely have an awareness of each other and a sophisticated communications system. I sometimes think, "Who needs a big brain if 2 strings of nerve cells with ganglia at each leg/wing can do the job, and the little critter has control over all the parts". And then, off he goes, doing what he's been designed/programmed to do. Yet even there he has a certain free will to make decisions. Keep up the good work! :-)

From the title I had an image of the thing sitting in a bar. I imagine wasps would be angry drunks. Superb clarity, detail and light.

WOW! I think Helle had this little one's drinking buddies in her shed a few weeks back! And what a shot this is! I haven't seen too many wasps this year, though I did get a nice visit from a hornet, but she was too busy to stick around; she acted like she had a lot of shopping to do. What colors! I rarely see wasps drinking, unless they're yellowjackets (like this one, only with orange antennae) stealing my iced tea (they're fond of Coca Cola too, which makes me question their tastes...but maybe they pour rum in it from the little, tiny flasks they probably carry with them. Hmm...there's an image...wasps with hip-flasks with rum/gin/whiskey in them! What colors. That leaf is such a nice, vivid green, and the wasp is apparently a young-ish one, and what details! I love the little, cute, bristly hairs on its head and just look at those colors! Somebody's healthy! And I can say that it's officially summer, since I've now seen one of these! And what a beauty! Oh, and did you know that wasp tongues tickle? If they're shamelessly de-salting your skin, they produce a fun, little sensation. This is perfect! THANK YOU!
