Description
After a steady loss of tanks and a tenuous (at best) supply line to replenish much needed supplies, Rommel was forced to retreat in the face of the allied forces assembled by Lieutenant General Bernard Montgomery. The second battle of El Alamein finally and irrevocably broke the back of Rommel's Afrika Korps and the axis grip on the African continent. It seems to me that the allied victory arguably had less to do with strategy and tactics than it did with a sure and steady flow of supplies from secured ports on the coast and their ability to build up a massive force that, in the face of the Korps' unreinforceable condition, could not be denied victory.
I initially started this piece as an offshoot of an experiment to see how many Domus Dorks could fit on "the head of a pin" so to speak. Then I decided to see how many Simon G2 figures I could outfit with Tryphon's KD gear and deploy in Vue 6 Infinite. Quite a few it turned out as well as a Crusader tank and commander and a couple of Neil's Beaufighters. I used Vue's eco system terrrain editor and painter to deploy the troops. A lot of experimentation, but it works pretty good with a fair amount of freedom to replace and erase individual instances. Most of the time and efforts went into the 5 individual poses in Poser and saving them for use in the eco system editor/painter in vue.
Tommies: Simon G2 outfitted with Tryphon's excellent KD and BD Gear. Great stuff, Luis. Thanks for letting me send it out to the field.
Crusader MkII tank: By Touchwood and available here at Renderosity and at ontarget3d.
Bristol Beaufighters: Excellent aircraft by Neiwil himself available for free at sharecg
Sand: Well, it's everywhere!

Nice action scene Bill... in particular, the position of the tank coming over, being slightly off camera axis... terrific. Could use a bit more sweat around the armpits my friend : )

Thanks, Don. It's been near 100 degrees here the last 3 days, so I think I did most of the real sweating for this project!

Very well done image! Two questions. Where can I find the uniforms by Tryphon you mention in this image and your previous image? Second, did eco system somehow vary the poses or how did you handle that? I guess you could save 2-3 figures with varying poses and have eco system place them. Was that how it as done?

WoW!!! the best QMG render yet.... I hope to get something together on this scale......one day! You've certainly given me something to aim for.....stunning!

Yeah... action... Great work. Poser figures works well with some kind of instancing. So one can populate his scene with ease.
EdsArt
Jaw droppingly impressive.
Stringy
Good job on the battle scene and nice to see some military action.

Excellent work. The thumbnail made me think "comic" from the 1950s or 60s. Seeing the panorama and zooming in, my impression was that of a wide screen movie. A lot of work. By the way, Rommel ran into that escarpment held by the British and had no fuel to circumnavigate it. The narrow gap in its center was in British hands and inaccessible. The British attack (with many M4 Shermans in support) with forces pouring through that gap broke the Afrika Korps (out of fuel, and too many tank losses, so Rommel backed off). But there was still a lot of fight left in Afrika Korps, until final defeat in Tunisia and loss of the first Tiger tanks. Keep up the good work! :-)

Great looking action scene good looking sky too

Impressive! I actually thought of doing the instancing in vue but I'm not a 100% sure how to achieve it. Glad you're enjoying the G2 gear. I forgot to mention, you can find a desert texture for the helmet inth BD folder. Well done Bill. If you don't hear from me its because I'm back in for treatment.
