Description

This is an older project from the archives. I did the Imperial Japanese Navy ship Haruna firing its main fore guns quite a while ago, but it never really got my motor running. I recently decided that I might get a more interesting point of view form an escort destroyer. Luckily the project was able to support the couple of mil polys without blowing a seal. So here it is in all it's glory. IJN Haruna: Free on Sketchup warehouse by The Architect, liberally retextured and tweaked a tad. IJN Hiryu carrier: Also the warehouse but not certain (it was a long time ago!) IJN Kagero Class destroyer: Excellent model by Sosai liberally re-textured and fiddled with a bit. IJN deckhands: Epici Enemy soldier LW0R1 excellent low poly figures with a modified uniform from Poser World. C4d6CE+XL, Poser7, Vue6Infinite, PS Cs3

Bill...no jokes on this one....this is fantastic! stunning realism, above and beyond exellent! Although there is nothing to detract from the image, I have to say that bow wave is 'scary real'.....instant fave BRAVO!!! and huge thumbs up...

This looks really nice Bill.. the gun fire is exceptional... I'm sure you have painted this : ). I also like the water and the foreground texturing of the ship and the officers. Would love to see you really get into one of these in a big way.. major Hollywood promotional piece.. you have all the skills more then most of us.

Yeah, great image. I like the bow wave too. Sosais destroyer is somewhere on my hard disk. Time to grab it out from the deeps of the hard disk... :-)

It's definitely a keeper! With a bit or extra texture it can stand some reasonable close-ups. A very fine model indeed!

Nicely done. I have a dvd of old films of Japanese capital ships during gunnery exercises and they didn't fire both guns of a turret at the same time. (This was to minimize the spread caused by the two shells exiting the barrels at the same time.) They actually fired one barrel while reloading the other, which was not done at full elevation, so the barrels kept going up and down, firing when elevated.

Yep, its like Pearl Harbor 2.0. All we need now is someone to bankroll the movie!!! Great scene design and realism. I also got the Hiryu from sketchup some time ago.
