Description

well here we go again.had to blur a couple of lines from filtered planes in PS5 cuz for some reason 2 out of the coupla hundred trees in the scene wouldn't cooperate...could i have reached some kind of limit,i already have resolve depth set to the max...any ideas...the line appeared on the forground tree, and one on the left far distance so no similarity in position re:camera...sigh

Suggestion: instead to add noise in PS, you can use blur a couple of time to simulate DOF and put the picture as a background. Out of that picture topic but about suggesting contests, bobby, there is a challange area in renderosity where you can challange people. I went there, a guy challanges people to make a prism effectively able to diffract light and ask what software can do that. I tried and failed in Imagine (so I didn't post), can you take the challange bobby ?

Nice trees indeed, especially for imagine that normaly isnt to easy to do this with, are they true 3D or some kind of filtermasks/imagemaps? A bit grainy, but that can be my monitor, I will look see at home.

Dhurgan, Yes they are filter/image trees.Too many polys any other way for my poor old machine.I harvested them from a demo of some landscape software i tested out.And yes it is a bit grainy, haven't figgered out why but suspect it has to do with the way the light is breaking up going thru the trees in a volumetric environment.Haven't gotten to the atmosphere as much as i've been tweaking the sky.Thanx for tour comments.Done an egg cuop or a writing implement yet....lol...well....go for it...

Richard, The quest I set for myself was to do a complete sunset in Imagine using NO background imagery, and I'd have liked to use 3D trees as well but ain't gotta mainframe for the poly-count.I will work out why I get those lines from the filtered planes as it doesn't happen but on 2 or 3 of the many trees so there must be something I can set to cure that at least.Till then I'll blur the one or two that happen.I suspect that the resolve depth is at fault here,it seems to operate in IU's and only goes up to 100 so anything beyond 100 IU's from the camera is subject to freakout....tho the foreground tree which was also affected is well within the resolve depth,so i dunno.....Have already spent far too long on a prism and found you need caustics,or something like it to do the effect without faking it,..was tryiny the DarkSideOfTheMoon prism effect when i gave up....POV-RAY does real nice caustics if you can handle words to pictures as a concept, but is the BIG reason I have POV on my box and use Imagine...lol...Cinema4D,the lastest revision seems to have something like it,as does BrasilR/S,but I've no desire t spend $8000.00 onna program that is not even a proper RatTracer, and ises common .jpg's for most of it's texturing. In my opinion Imagine gives a much better effect with procedurals, and when someone looks at an image I'v made, they usually don't say"Hmmmm...another Imagine render." as I so often do when I see a Max render.Insert Max in the Imagine slot.LightWave also has caustics, but is a real pain on some levels as it uses a lot of plugins to do stuff Imagine just does,in fact i think the caustics is a plugin as a buddy here in winnipeg has LW7 and hasn't mentioned caustics yet.tho he just got it on pc...he came over from the miggy recently. On the other hand both Max and LW can do HDRI renders(basically ImageBasedLighting)which uses no lights but creates light in the render based on a supplied image...pretty cool, you should investigate as I believe you have LW in addition to Imagine.High Dynamic Range Image is what HDRI stands for. TrueSpace5 also does a varient on it(IBL tab in lighting) and it's totally cool...soft shadows with no lights at all.S'all for now...sorry for being so verbose bit I'm a tad bored....
