Description

Somewhere near Frampton in the far west of Montana. This is an old cattle loading dock where the wagons or trucks would pull up and the cattle would be herded up the shoot. That way they did not have to open the gate and risk a great escape! I vaguely remember seeing these from my grandfather's farm. Was away last week doing fieldwork in northern Idaho and western Montana and then on to a conference in Boise. Man was it hot, like 105 F in Boise. Killer being outside. Driving through this part of the world really made me realize how much beautiful country there is out here in the west and I had to question why I felt like I had to travel half way around the world to photograph gorgeous scenes and landscapes. Didn't have much time to do serious photography as we had a lot of country to travel and a lot of work to do, but I got a few good ones. Gotta go back and spend more time in this part of the world.

Roxie, you did a very nice job on this thoughtful presentation. I also remember such a loading dock at my Grandparents farm that my Grandpa used from time to time when taking cattle to auction.

Yeah, Montana, Wyoming, the Sawtooth range in Idaho, all fantastic fodder for photography - gotta get back out there, myself with some of these new photo-toys.. This is a really beautiful photo, Roxy, and what a sky! Brings back memories of B&W film with a red filter to bring out the clouds. Nice one, my friend - hope you get a chance to pay a return visit!

Yea, it's amazing what you can do with some effort in postwork. Funny in a way how we long for the old fashioned film look now.

Very beautiful capture When I was stationed in Idaho Falls, I'd ride my motorcycle out to the middle of nowhere and watch the sun rise I miss those days

Magnificent image, subject to perspective and especially for the dramatic effect of the composition and the subject. The effect is very reminiscent of the photos in B & W IR. Nolto nice your thoughts on the fact that you do not need to go far to find then interesting things to photograph. If, as is evident from your photos, you have something in your mind to tell you can travel without leaving home. I remember many years ago to have participated with 10 photo in a group exhibition of photographers, all photos taken inside the house, an inner journey while all other landscapes from around the world. Strange but the most people was more interested in my photos.

A very stark, yet appealing composition with a great range of tones. For me, it evokes images of American landscapes from certain b&w movies that were shot by directors with particularly keen talents for composition, mood & lighting. The ones that spring to mind are North By Northwest (Hitchcock), The Last Picture Show (Bogdanovich) & more recently Nebraska (Alexander Payne)...

Wonderful old farm shot! My cousins had a farm and still have a lot of the old machinery from way back when.

Really beautiful image! The B&W is perfect for this. Excellent combo of detail and contrast. Great composition too. Your photography skills are growing in leaps and bounds and matching your artistic eye.

Such a striking image and yes, these interesting tidbits are all around. I've been cruising pintrest a bit lately for images and they have some wonderful ones under 'beautiful decay'. Just old buildings, cars everything that is falling apart, abandoned. You wonder why people left some of these places, they were so fantastic. I love the black and white. This is a very dramatic piece!
