Description

I've been trying to make a planetary space scene with clouds that look fairly real and have depths to them (Love the opening shot of Pandora on Avatar) but haven't been able to in Carrara but Vue worked well for this. Here is the Vimeo link to it: https://vimeo.com/102483908 As animating in Vue would be too slow renderwise, I rendered out a large still and composited it in Hitfilm with a 3d ship model(also all in hitfim) anitmated the ship, graded the shot and here we go. I have an method to this madness. I want to see if I can do my character animation in Carrara or Poser or Daz, as well as other shots in whatever package works the best, put it all together in HF, and see how it goes. Hope you like it.

Looking good! I don't know how big your planet is but you might want to back off the depth of the clouds to the point just above where they look three dimensional but not so deep that they knock down the size of the planet. I like the ship design, too. Quite functional looking.

Great looking still and great work on the animation too. I kind of agree with Henchmonkey though, the depth of clouds is nothing compared to the size of a planet, so you wouldn't tend to see the depth at the horizon.
