Description
XM594 was the 58th Vulcan B2 built by A.V.Roe at Woodford in 1963. In July 1963 she joined the 'Blue Steel' independent British Nuclear Deterrent Force, allocated to 27 Squadron with the RAF Scampton Vulcan Wing.
XM594 is now on show at the Newark Air Museum, she is open to the public at weekends ( trust us to go on a Monday :-) and until recently an auxiliary power unit was attached and she was made electronically 'live'. Unfortunately the number of volunteers grew to the level were the Museum fell under the remit of H&S......and they immediately put a stop to this practice :-(

Damn it... how cool is this. Everytime I see one of these I want to whistle the theme tune to 'Thunderball' :-)

Wow! That's no small plane. Would be interesting to see side by side with a B52 for sheer size comparison! That being made electronically alive sound interesting - some explanation as to what came alive, please? And who the heck are the H&S? Another Obam-ination organization of fun spoiling PC liberals? Take it to the air and drop "eggs" on them! By the way, I like your avatar - nice and balanced. I expect MORE, man! Considering all the photos you've taken...... :-)

Superb image, Neil. All bombers are near and dear to me, no matter the nationality. It is interesting however, that aircraft from each nation that actually designs and builds there own planes always seem to have a special look about them, and the British aircraft are no different. I personally love the look of American aircraft but, I also love the differences and nuances of other designs. I guess I am just saying, "I love airplanes" (duh!) You changed your avatar! I was going to send you some photos of Corsairs 'cause I thought you were really into them. Maybe I'll send you some anyway.

A beautiful photo of a historic bomber. Aren't Vulcans the ones that made the historic long range raid on the Falklands?
neiwil
Indeed they were, and this was the reserve aircraft for that mission....
