Description
... I'm landing in the rain.
Last week I attended this year's Idaflieg Summer Meeting at Aalen-Elchingen. Me and my Akaflieg Dresden comrades planned to investigate in how far the pressure distribution around the wing root can be used to trigger a stall warning in a glider. After installation of all equipment we were able to successfully conduct measurement flights in the morning of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, right between sunrise and beginning of the rain. ... Now I know where the holes had to be drilled into the fuselage.
During the last fight my pilot pushed the stick to 180kph (100kts) and then slowly pulled until it stalled. Anyway, we did not manage to be back before rain started. With water on the Twin's wings, you donĀ“t get the sink rate under 2m/sec (400ft/min) at any airspeed. After touch down they pushed me into the hangar still sitting in the rear cockpit where I was given my wheelchair back.
This time I had no photo that may be called the one and only, that's why I tried a collage again. Guess not many have seen an airborne plane as close as glider pilots see their tow aircraft.

An excellent composite of a glider day. Really tells the story.
