Description

Dear friends, another pic from the beautiful old Hanse city Stralsund, which was once part of the swedish kingdom for some centuries. Stralsund is the last place of the old "Gorch Fock", a row of famous german sailing ships, recent used by the German Marine Corps for education of their sea officers. This ship here is the "Gorch Fock I" and was built 1933 in Hamburg by Blohm & Voss. Is was for the education of german marine officers, too. At the end of World War II the ship was submerged in the Strela Sound. From 1947 till 1992 it was part of Soviet- Russias trading fleet under its name "Tovarischtsch", than part of the Ukrainian fleet till 2003. In 2003 it was bought by the "German Tallship Friends e.V", a group of rich private people and was brought back to its old harbour, Stralsund. Now it is an museum. They think about to restore the whole ship and go back to the BIG TURN again... Hope you like it. Thanks for your comments for my older pic from this place, please feel free to send some new. Danke für die ausführliche Info zu diesem bekannten Segelschiff. Mein Vater hatte manchmal von ihr erzählt. Und in diesem wunderschönen Abendrot ist ihre Silhouette wirklich sagenhaft und läßt einen auf die Reise gehen.
