Description

Two people, a dad and his daughter, walking along the shore looking for pretty shells. There are about 240 species of shells living in the Adriatic Sea. A majority of shells live along the coast and in the lower sea, attached to rocks or in the sand which makes it easier to pick them up. Most seashells can be picked up by hand without any special equipment, either from the shore or the sea. This makes them easily reachable so, unfortunately, they are over-hunted due to their tasteful meat or attractive shell which many people want to keep as a souvenir. When I was a child we used local names for the shells, called cape (pr. kappae, plural of capa pr. kappa, Venetian for shell, Italian conchiglia). The Cardium shells were called capa regina or queen shell, the spiny whelks of the Murex family, used to produce the famous purple dye, were the garagoli (something linke gargoil), then we had the fans, the Madonna's nails, the peoci (lice, the mussels), etc. After a storm we found stars, crabs and sea horses among the weeds and driftwood as well as some giant jelly fish. Thank you for your kind comments.

stunning sky and if I ever hunted for shells, it would ones already dead. I can not understand taking a living creature just for it's shell unless they will eat it also

My husband would tell the kids and I not to get alot of sea shells each year we would go to the beach. LOL!!!! Each year we would all come back with lots of sea shells. :)))) That is one reason to go to the beach. :))))) This image reminds me of my husband walking on the beach with our kids in the early morning. :)))) I would sleep in. :)) This image is gorgeous. :))))) Most excellent capture my friend. :)))) Thank you for sharing all of the beauty you see. :))))) Start each day with a smile. :)))))
