Description

This wood stork nest is in the same area as yesterdays posting. The two chicks are about a month old. It is in the Wakodahatchee Wetlands which is about 50 acres (202,342 square meters) of swamp land west of Delray Beach, Florida. More than 140 different species of birds have been spotted at this site along with turtles, frogs and alligators. The statistics listed in yesterdays post came from Wikipedia. There are three other nests in this photo and all are Anhinga, a member of the Cormorant family. As you can see by the houses in the background, civilization has been encroaching on this area! Much better detail in zoom! Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

I thought these birds were wilder than storks in Europe, but they have their nest very close to the houses! Very lovely capture with the babies :-)

The background homes are hundreds of yards away from these nests and this entire swamp is in an area protected by Palm Beach County.

Great capture, Dana! Hmm...not a really attractive bird, but still very cool. I have never seen one, so that would be a treat. Those are really big babies for a month old, LOL. I shall have to visit Wikipedia to see that they eat, etc.
