Doesn't look too happy does it? Poor critter fenced in. I believe if we leave these animals alone, and stop invading THEIR space for our own selfish gain, they'll do al-right. Remember the thylocine? human encroachment eh? I hate zoos, but this is not to detract from your excellent shot mate.

Hi Ronnie. Thanks for your comments mate. I totally get where you are coming from. Just to clarify, I had to use a long telephoto to get this shot. The animal (which was born and bred in captivity) isn't in a small cage as it may appear. He was at the far back of his huge enclosure but never moved, so this was the only shot I could get!!! And at some point, the wire is need as he is after all a Leopard!! Also, the Melbourne Zoo undertakes an award winning breeding program which really is the last chance for these beautiful creatures to avoid extinction. The trouble is that we as a species are not halting habitat destruction. As you said, it's only getting worse. The zoo also conducts daily education to try and get the next generation of humans to care more about the plight of wild animals. It's a beautiful zoo with large lush enclosures, and I must say it really helps the school students appreciate the plight of the animals much more. Andrew

These cats are so beautiful; they have the most luxurious tail of any of the cats. Wonderful capture!

I liked your comment to Ronnie's comment and of course you are both right. There are poachers that kill for their skins much like rhinoceros horns and elephant tusks. In the northern woods in the US, they hunt large bears just for their gall bladders. There has to be a better way to earn money! Oh, I like the lazy look of this photo!
