Description

A couple of X One Design dinghies off to join the Saturday race. The sea and the light were both absolutely flat, and I expect it was to be a rather drifty sort of afternoon. "Poole/Parkstone racing is organised by Parkstone Yacht Club and The Royal Motor Yacht Club and mostly takes place in Poole Harbour. Races are 3 times a week on Saturday and Wednesday afternoons and Monday evenings. The season is between May and September. The Royal Motor Yacht Club holds an autumn series in October and so racing in Poole Harbour takes place from May until October inclusive. Fleet size - approx 30 boats compete on both Saturdays and Wednesdays with an average turnout of 20 boats - 18 at the beginning and end of the season and 22+ in mid season. XOD owners must be members of Parkstone Yacht Club but crew may visit 7 times a year as guests. Moorings at Parkstone are owned by the Division and available at a reasonable price - moorings are close to both the club and the start platform. The XOD fleet repair to the bar after racing which is always preceded by afternoon tea. Club facilities include racing for cruisers, and also for, on average, 10 dinghy classes. The Club has a very active youth racing and training programme for the very young" Info from this site here http://www.xonedesign.org.uk/divisions.html. You may need to zoom! See another Here

Super shot Andrea. It's been a long long time since I used to race at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club :)

What a lovely shot and the aspect ratio is perfect for such a capture, I would suspect you were working against difficult lighting condition and yet pull a shot like this out of the camera. Well done, zoom is a must.

If you take away the bottom half the masts look like foot soldiers going into battle with lances. It could also be I've had too much medication today lol.

What a tangle of uprights. They look like lances held aloft by knights ready for battle. And if the whole thing had been blessed by a priest you could have called it "Massed Masts after Mass" (and, yes, I stole it from your other image).

LOL @ Mick! :P I'm a bit worried about the guy with full sail in the midst of all that traffic. In these parts, we don't set the sails until we're clear! Of course it could just be pov. Still. I'm concerned. :P

Both are wonderful photos and I can't believe the number of masts that you captured in this shot!
