Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

They look quite nice and plenty of seeds!

Great capture. I'd probably be tempted to try just a bit for taste.

Fantastic shot of these interesting fruits... wonder what they taste like?... never heard of these before. This shot deserves a zoom viewing.

Never seen or tasted. Perhaps best not to.

Now if you had told me that was a triffid I would have believed it :) great shot with that soft ray of light coming though

I am not surprised. They look like they might eat you! And the unopened ones remind me of sweet potatoes. The fruit is said to be sweet but mind the stems as the Chinese use them as a diuretic.

They look so alien, don't they? What a beautiful capture!!!

I love the way the inner portion vaguely resembles a catarpillar or grub of some sort: I wonder if this is to attract birds? I've never seen these before and I rather like them. They're rather "alien" in that they don't look like apples, oranges, or bentleys, and so that's joyful in-and-of itself. I love the colors! They also look quite efficient at whatever it is that they're evolved to do! What a gorgeous specimen.

Nice shot Andrea I just looked up there edibleness you probably know this but for anyone interested , The fruits are sausage-shaped pods which contain edible pulp. The gelatinous placentation is littered with seeds but have a sweet flavour, so they used to be enjoyed by children playing out in the countryside in the olden days in Japan. The rind, with a slight bitter taste, is used as vegetable, e.g., stuffed with ground meat and deep-fried. The vines are traditionally used for basket-weaving. Info from Wikipedia. That last bit might be worth a try on a cold winters night.

Again I have never seen them before. You really do educate me!

Brilliant shot, I don't think I'd like to eat them though.

Well, I'll be! I googled the plant but only looked at images tab. Interesting that they are edible, but not sure I would have the nerve. Cool image and lesson today. :)

It's very attractive, isn't it? I like the subtle, creamy colors.
