Description

Hello again! Meanwhile I´m very happy to catch this event. Many friends ask about - and they are unlucky that they couldn`t see it. Our local TV channel past this, too. Today they woke up: Queen Margarethe of Danmark was here and our president, and they stood in the boat and had a glass of champagne - and then they opened the Viking exhibition. And our TV channel awoke, too..... This pic here shows the moment when the Sea Stallion passes the Oberbaum bridge in Berlin - Kreuzberg. This was the most touching moment of the whole tour: Berlinians and the viking boat crew gave a loud "Hurrah" to each other and a loud applause.... This bridge here, the Oberbaum bridge, is Berlins finest bridge. In the old days it was the entrance from the Spree river to the inner parts of the old Berlin. At night it was closed with a swimming tree. In modern times the bridge was destroyed in the middle at the last days of WW II and than became a dark role in the cold war. The bridge was closed and divided by the Berlin Wall. The elevated subway was cut off , traffic was forbidden and there was for 25 years a checkpoint for passengers, pedestrians only. Sometimes they shot from side to side, and two children drowned here under the eyes of police and firebrigade. Now the bridge is open for pedestrians, bikers, cars, busses and they discuss a tram. On top the elevated subway line, the famous No. 1. So it is somewhat symbolic, to welcome the viking ship crew directly here....... Thanks for looking in here and thanks for your comments for my older pics here. Please feel free to send some new, it feels good every time... Bye, billcody

Dein Einsatz hat sich gelohnt. Tolle Aufnahmen. Ich hatte nicht so viel Glück. Bei waren zu viele Menschen. Und der Hintergrund am Reichstagsufer war unmöglich. Schade allerdings, dass nicht einmal das Segel gesetzt war. Hätte noch cooler ausgesehen.
