Description
I took this shot on the day of President Obama's first inauguration - January 20th, 2009 - for which we had managed to obtain tickets. Washington was blistery cold that day, with a low of 19 & rising to 28 degrees by midday when the ceremony took place. The surface of the Potomac was frozen & these shards of ice had formed...

I loved seeing this on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk when I lived there; such a foreign sight when you've grown up in Los Angeles! Beautiful capture of these jigsaw puzzle pieces!

I've never seen a frozen river, being from up here. It's never cold enough to form ice on moving water. This is quite a sight!

I lived in Silver Springs when JFK was inaugurated. No ticket - just stood in the open area, in the back since dawn. So cold and nobody warned us about the 21 gun salute at the end! Scared the crap out of me.
