Description
This immature Great Egret was resting in the lake behind our home. He/she had a damaged right foot and held it off the ground. No predators in this lake so it is safe.
Wikipedia says - The great egret also known as common egret or great white heron has all white plumage. It is distributed across most of the tropical and warmer temperate regions of the world. In North America it is widely distributed. Standing up to 3.3 feet (1 meter) tall, this species can measure 31 to 41 inches (80 to 104 cm) in length and have a wingspan of 52 to 67 inches (131 to 170 cm). Body mass can range from 1.5 to 3.3 pounds (700 to 1,500 grams). Apart from size, the great egret can be distinguished from other white egrets by its yellow bill and black legs and feet.

Private property Mike and she can fly so not much help available at this point. There are plenty of fish in this lake so a great place to recuperate for as long as it takes! I got within 5 feet before she just flew to the other side of the lake and made a safe landing over there.

love your photo of the Egret, Dana, hope this fella makes it, but should by your description. we had a youn dear a few months back that had a damaged leg from a car most likely, doubt it survived.. best zoomed.. enjoy Florida.

what a beauty and such a perfect clear photo! I never now it a egret the same we call heron? we have a white heron in our region, looks almost the same, I think yours has darker legs.. anyway, a superb picture!
